Roberto Sau was born on March 26, 1995 in Cagliari where he attended high school at the commercial technical institute Leonardo da Vinci.
Once he graduated, he moved first to Pisa where he attended university and then to Durham in northeastern England where he now lives and attends the local university.
Roberto started his bridge player career winning the Cadets Italians Teams Championships in 2009 and following next year with the Junior Italian Teams then won again in 2014 and in 2016.
Entered in the turn of the small blues he has won the bronze in the World BAM Transnationals Teams of 2016 followed by silver in the BAM Teams at 2019 World Youth Open Championships.
