Dick Shek è nato il 13 giugno del 1951 a Ipoh, una città circa 200 km a nord della capitale malese, si è trasferito a Londra nel 1967 dove ha frequentato il Queen Mary College.
Verso la fine degli anni '70 è diventato un professionista del bridge e nei primi anni '80 ha assunto la direzione dell'ACOL Bridge Club.
Ha giocato per la nazionale inglese vincendo la Gold Cup nel 1991, il Crockfords nel 1986 e nel 2003, lo Spring Foursomes nel 1984, 1986, 1990 e 1992, la Hubert Phillips Bowl nel 1989 e la Dunhill Cup del 1993.
Sotto i colori inglesi ha partecipato ai Campionati Europei del 1989 e del 1997 ed è un World Master.
Nel 2008 si è ritirato in Malesia dove oggi vive nel distretto di Menglembu e fa parte della nazionale open oltre a capitanare quella women.

Under the British colors he participated in the European Championships of 1989 and 1997 and is a World Master.
In 2008 he retired to Malaysia where he now lives in the Menglembu district and is part of the open national team as well as captaining that women.
