Le personalità del brdige

Il Colonnello Richmond Hastings Skinner è nato il 10 agosto del 1898 ed è stato una personalità di rilievo del Bridge amministrativo della prima metà del secolo scorso.

Studiò Ingegneria Chimica al MIT per 3 anni e mezzo prima di interrompere gli studi a causa degli impegni militari per poi riprenderli presso Istituto di Tecnologia della California dove si laureò come Ingegnere Civile.

Uomo dal multiforme ingegno e dalla grande vitalità, lavorò come ingegnere alla costruzione della diga di Conowingo prima di dedicarsi alla progettazione e alla costruzione di Organi Monumentali nell'azienda di famiglia di cui divenne Direttore Generale e Vice Presidente.

Allo scoppiare della seconda guerra, partì volontario nel 1942 e guadagnò la Legione al Merito durante l'invasione delle Filippine, lasciando le armi nel 1951 con il grado di Luogotenente Colonnello.

Pilota ed istruttore di volo, tennista ed arbitro di tennis, legislatore del New Hampshire, il Bridge ha rappresentato solo uno dei suoi numerosi interessi.

Membro del Comitato Esecutivo ACBL fin dall'anno della sua fondazione, ne divenne Presidente nel 1944.

Ottimo giocatore, vincitore di diversi titoli regionali e di un titolo nazionale, Dick fu anche l'ideatore delle Psichiche sui Controlli che presero il suo nome e di un sistema di risposte all'Apertura di 1SA.

Fin dal 1932, Dick propugnò l'intelligente teoria che un Asso valeva 5 punti contro i 3, 2, 1 di Re, Dame e Fanti.

Colonel Richmond Hastings Skinner was born on 1898, 10 August and is a prominent personality of the Bridge administration of the first half of the last century.

He studied Chemical Engineering at MIT for three years and a half before interrupt his studies because of military commitments and then resume its at the California Institute of Technology where he graduated as a Civil Engineer.

Man of multiform talent and great vitality, he worked as an engineer for the construction of the Conowingo Dam before devoting himself to the design and construction of the monumental organs in a family Company where he became General Manager and Vice President.

At the outbreak of the second war, he volunteered in 1942 and earned the Legion of Merit during the invasion of the Philippines, leaving weapons in 1951 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Pilot and flight instructor, tennis player and umpire, legislature of New Hampshire, the bridge was only one of his many interests.

Executive Committee member ACBL since the year of its foundation, became President in 1944.

Better player, winner of several regional titles and one national title, Dick was also the creator of the Psychic Controls that took its name and a feedback system to Opening 1NT.

He advocated since 1932 the theory that an Ace It was worth 5 points against the 3, 2, 1 King, Dame and Fanti.

Married, Skinner died in March 1986 in Dallas.
