Barbara Gill Travis è nata ad Adelaide nel 1959 e, oltre ad essere una giocatrice di livello internazionale è una delle migliori insegnanti australiane.

 World Women Master, ha vinto diversi titoli nazionali ed ha fatto più volte parte delle nazionali australiane.

 In particolare, ha vinto due volte l'Open Pairs al Gold Coast a distanza di 34 anni! ed ha fatto della prima coppia femminile capace di vincere l'Open Teams giapponese.

 Sposata prima con Jeff Travis e poi con Howard Melbourne, entrambi giocatori di livello nazionale, ha avuto due figli.

 La figlia Lauren sta avendo successo in campo giovanile ed ha già guadagnato anche lei il titolo di World Women Master vincendo due argenti ai mondiali di Atlanta nel Transnational BAM Teams e nel Transnational Juniors, inoltre, ha guadagnato il bronzo al Campionato di Consolazione del 2014.

 L'attuale marito, con cui Barbara gioca spesso in coppia, ha vinto un argento agli Europei Juniores del 1982 giocando per i colori inglesi ed è stato anche il coach di alcune delle nazionali dei canguri.

 Famiglia di bridgisti a tutto tondo, la cugina Elizabeth Havas è anche lei una World Women Master che fa parte della nazionale femminile.

 Daughter Lauren is having success in the youth field and has already earned the title of World Women Master by winning two silver medals at the Atlanta World Championships in Transnational BAM Teams and in Transnational Junior's. She has also earned bronze in the Consolation BAM Championships of 2014.

 The current husband, with whom Barbara often played paired, won a silver medal at the European Junior of 1982 playing for the English colours and was also the coach of some teams of the kangaroo's country.

 Family of bridge players in the round, her cousin Elizabeth Havas is part of the national women.
