Billy  WILDER

 Billy Wilder è il pseudonimo di Samuel Wilder che nacque a Sucha, nell'allora impero austroungarico (oggi la polacca Sucha Beskidzka), il 22 giugno del 1906 ed è stato un famoso regista, sceneggiatore, e produttore cinematografico austriaco naturalizzato statunitense.

 Considerato il padre della commedia brillante americana è anche uno dei fondatori del genere noir.

 Da giovane studente si iscrisse alla facoltà di giurisprudenza, dalla quale approdò alla sua prima professione di giornalista.

 Collaborò per qualche tempo presso un quotidiano di Vienna prima di trasferirsi a Berlino per lavorare come reporter presso il principale tabloid della città.

 Ma il suo impegno nel giornalismo durò poco. Già nel 1929 iniziò a scrivere sceneggiature cinematografiche collaborando spesso con il famoso regista tedesco Robert Siodmak.

Divenne famoso nel giro di poco tempo, ma quando nel 1933 Adolf Hitler salì al potere, la carriera di Wilder, ebreo, fu improvvisamente interrotta e fu costretto a fuggire dalla Germania.

A portarlo prima a Parigi, poi negli Stati Uniti furono le leggi razziali del nazismo. I suoi parenti, rimasti in Europa, morirono nei campi di concentramento.

Wilder giunse a Hollywood povero in canna e senza sapere una parola di inglese. Assieme al grande attore Peter Lorre condusse un'esistenza quasi di stenti, mantenendosi con sporadiche collaborazioni a sceneggiature di film di serie B.

Nel 1942 diresse in un film Ginger Rogers e fu l'inizio di una lunga serie di successi che gli fecero guadagnare ben 6 Oscar.

Lo si poteva trovare di frequente impegnato in un bridge con gli amici.

Si sposò due volte, la prima nel 1936 con Judith Coppicus che gli diede una coppia di gemelli, la seconda con l'attrice Audrey Young con la quale restò legato fino alla sua scomparsa avvenuta a West Los Angeles, a 95 anni, il 27 marzo del 2002 per le conseguenze di una polmonite.

Considered the father of American brilliant comedy, he is also one of the founders of the noir genre.

He worked for some time in a Vienna newspaper before moving to Berlin to work as a reporter at the city's main tabloid.
