Molti anni fa uno, dei più formidabili giocatori di tutti i tempi: Oswald Jacoby, rivoluzionò le consuetudini correnti proponendo di mostrare l'appoggio almeno quarto con forza almeno da manche con un salto diretto a 2SA da eseguirsi di fronte delle due aperture in quinta nobile.

Egli propose anche le seguenti repliche per l'apertore:

• 3 in nuovo colore = singolo della mano

• 4 in nuovo colore = vuoto della mano

• 4 nel nobile di apertura = apertura minima priva di brevità

• 3 nel nobile di apertura = assenza di brevità, ma almeno 17PO

• 3SA = 5.3.3.2 e 15-16PO

Solitamente, le altre mani d'Appoggio sono così sistemate:

            - 2 in Rialzo = appoggio terzo e forza limitata

            - 3 in Rialzo = appoggio quarto sbarrante

            - 4 in Rialzo = appoggio quinto debole

Le mani da manche con appoggio soltanto terzo vengono licitate facendo precedere il colore lungo della mano del rispondente.

He proposed as well the following replies of the opener:

• With a singleton in a side suit, opener identifies it by bidding that suit at the three level.

• With a void, opener jumps to the four level in the void suit.

• When opener has no singleton or void and 12 to 14 HCP, he bids four of the agreed trump suit.

• When opener has no singleton or void and 15 to 16 HCP, he bids 3NT.

• When opener has no singleton or void with 17 or more HCP, he bids three of the agreed suit

A very popular modification replaces the 3 jump bids at level 4, fit showing, in a void instead of a singleton, using the 3 bids in a new suit not any longer showing a shortness but, specifically a singleton.

Normally, the other support response are so parking:

    - Simple Raise = week whit three card support

    - Double Raise = invitational with four card support

    - Triple Raise   =  preemptive with 5+ card support

Whit the forcing game support hand whit only three card, the responder makes another call first and then raises partner's major at the his next turn.
