Mathias Bruun è nato il 4 ottobre del 1969 a Holte il quartiere più settentrionale dell'area metropolitana di Copenaghen adagiato sulle sponde del lago di Furesö a nord della capitale dove ha frequentato il locale ginnasio ed è uno dei migliori insegnanti danesi.
Sposato con Marie Louise Wedel, oggi vive nel non lontano Hellerup, un quartiere periferico della capitale affacciato sull'Oresund.
Come giocatore si è messo in luce a livello giovanile vincendo nel 1991 i Campionati del MEC a Coppie e a Squadre e conquistando il bronzo sia negli Europei a Coppie che nei Mondiali a Coppie. Un altro bronzo gli arrivò dai Mondiali a Squadre del 1995.
Il primo successo nella categoria superiore gli arriva con il bronzo conquistato nella Coppia dei Campioni del 2014.

Married to Marie Louise Wedel, now lives in close Hellerup, a suburb of the capital, overlooking the Oresund.
