Ciara  BURNS

 

 Nata l'11 settembre del 1972 a Downpatrick, una città circa 35km a sud est di Belfast, Ciara Burns è stata una bambina prodigio negli scacchi ed è oggi una delle migliori giocatrici del suo Paese.

 Studiò al St. Brigid's di Downpatick, alla Assumption Grammar di Ballynahinch e alla Queen University di Belfast.

 A 15 anni vinse il campionato nazionale di scacchi ma, qualche anno dopo, li lasciò per il bridge dove eccelse da autodidatta.

 Avvocato di grido, partecipò per molti anni a gran parte degli avvenimenti a cui partecipava la nazionale irlandese, fu il più giovane presidente della Federazione Nord Irlandese e fu anche presidente della Irish Bridge Union.

Scomparve prematuramente nella natia Downpatrick il 30 aprile del 2017.

Born on September 11, 1972 in Downpatrick, a city about 35km southeast of Belfast, Ciara Burns was a child prodigy in chess and one of the best female bridge players in her country.

She studied at St. Brigid's in Downpatick, at the Assumption Grammar in Ballynahinch and at the Queen University in Belfast.

At 15 she won the national chess championship but, a few years later, she left them for the bridge where she excelled as self-taught.

A well-known lawyer, she participated for many years in most of the events in which the Irish national took part, was the youngest president of the Northern Irish Federation and was also president of the Irish Bridge Union.

She disappeared prematurely in his native Downpatrick on April 30th, 2017.
