Elaine Armgard Hirstman Cassidy è nata il 15 marzo del 1930 a Strathfield nel New South Galles ed è stata una prominente figura dell'insegnamento e della politica australiana.
Ha frequentato le scuole di Meriden e di Macquarie prima di laurearsi all'università di Sydney.
Ha insegnato storia e geografia alla Frensham di Mittagong per poi passare a Kambala e a Ascham.
Negli anni '50 ha vissuto a Londra e quando tornò a Sydney si occupò della raccolta fondi per la costruzione della Opera House e sull'onda di quella esperienza si occupò di questioni simili per altre importanti opere pubbliche.
Nel 1961 si sposò con Derek Cassidy dopo averlo incontrato al tavolo verde durante un incontro di bridge a Thredbo e gli diede due figlie Edwena e Belinda.
Nel 1979 entrò nel consiglio comunale di Woollahra per poi diventare vice sindaca dal 1987 e sindaca dal 1988.
Per tutta la sua vita si dilettò a giocare a bridge frequentando anche regolarmente i campionati australiani.
Ritiratasi a Orange con il marito, morì il 21 febbraio del 2014.
Elaine Armgard Hirstman Cassidy was
born on March 15, 1930 in Strathfield, New South Wales, and was a prominent
figure in Australian teaching and politics.
She attended the schools of Meriden and Macquarie before graduating from Sydney University.
She taught history and geography at Frensham of Mittagong and then moved to Kambala and Ascham.
In the 1950s she lived in London and when she returned to Sydney she was fundraising for the construction of the Opera House and in the wake of that experience she dealt with similar issues for other important public works.
In 1961 she married Derek Cassidy after meeting him at the green table during a bridge meeting at Thredbo and gave him two daughters Edwena and Belinda.
In 1979 she entered the Woollahra Municipal Council and then became a deputy mayor since 1987 and a mayor since 1988.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing a bridge while regularly attending the Australian championships.
Returning to Orange with her husband, she died on February 21, 2014.
