John CARRUTHERS  &  Katie THORPE

 Nato nel 1947 in Gran Bretagna, John Carruthers vive a Kingsville una bella cittadina lacustre sul'Erie, cittadino canadese, ricercatore chimico ed esperto di informatica, John si è laureato alla Mount Allison University di Sackville.

 Scrittore, appassionato di golf, di equitazione, di musica e di viaggi, è stato editore dell'Ontario Kibitzer ed ha collaborato come articolista per molte delle principali riviste federali del mondo.

 Come giocatore John ha rappresentato il Canada in 5 Campionati Mondiali ed ha conquistato diversi titoli nazionali e nord americani. Tra quelli internazionali ricordiamo il Forbo International Teams del 2000 ed il Forbo Nation Cup del 2001 e l'argento nelle Olimpiadi Senior a Coppie del 2016. Tra quelli nazionali 8 campionati canadesi e 3 NABC.

 John, che è stato capitano non giocatore di rappresentative nazionali che hanno riportato importanti affermazioni in campo internazionale, è stato indotto nella Hall of Fame canadese nel 2015.

Detiene entrambi i titoli di World Master e Senior Master e nel 2023 è stato premiato con il Blackwood.

 Negli ultimi quarant'anni ha vissuto con Katie Thorpe, una World Life Master canadese di caratura internazionale che ha conquistato la medaglia di bronzo nelle Olimpiadi del 1988 e quella d'argento in quelle del 2000, nonché il bronzo nella Venice Cup del 1989.

Nel 2024 ha ricevuto il premio Blackwood.

Katie, che è nata ad Harrow nell'Ontario e che ha studiato presso la McMaster University di Hamilton, ha lavorato a lungo presso una Compagnia di Assicurazioni ed ha avuto una figlia, Tina.

Pluricampionessa nazionale, nel 1990-91 è stata Presidente della Federazione Canadese e nel 2015 è stata eletta nella Hall of Fame del Bridge Canadese.

Assieme a John hanno vinto il Mixed BAM Teams del 1991.

A writer, golfer, horseman, musician and travel enthusiast, he was the editor of the Ontario Kibitzer and has collaborated as a columnist for many of the world's leading federal magazines.

As a player, John has represented Canada in 5 World Championships and has won several national and North American titles. Among the international ones, we remember the 2000 Forbo International Teams and the 2001 Forbo Nation Cup and the silver in the 2016 Senior Olympics in Pairs. Among the national ones, 8 Canadian championships and 3 NABC.

John, who has been a non-playing captain of national teams that achieved international success, was inducted into the Canadian Bridge Hall of Fame in 2015.
He holds both the World Master and Senior Master titles and was awarded the Blackwood in 2023.

For the past 40 years he has lived with Katie Thorpe, a Canadian World Life Master of international standing who won bronze at the 1988 Olympics, silver at the 2000 Olympics, and bronze at the 1989 Venice Cup.

He received the Blackwood award in 2024.

Katie Thorpe, who was born in Harrow, Ontario and educated at McMaster University in Hamilton, has worked for many years in an insurance company and has a daughter, Tina.

A multiple national champion, she served as President of the Canadian Federation in 1990-91 and was elected to the Canadian Bridge Hall of Fame in 2015.

Together with John they won the 1991 Mixed BAM Teams.
