Gabriel Pinheiro Chagas Hijo, nato il 7 dicembre del 1944 a Rio de Janeiro è forse il più forte giocatore brasiliano di ogni tempo e certamente è stato tra i più forti del mondo.
Da quando a soli 23 anni vinse il primo titolo nazionale, ha continuato ininterrottamente con una messe di successi coronati dall'alloro Olimpico nel 1976 a Montecarlo e dalla Bermuda Bowl nel 1997 a Perth.
Parla correntemente lo spagnolo, il portoghese, l'italiano, il polacco, il russo ed il giapponese ed è in grado di esprimersi in altri 17 idiomi, per questa sua incredibile poliedricità linguistica è anche un uomo d'affari di successo specializzato in operazioni finanziarie internazionali.
Soprannominato l'Arcangelo, è un personaggio ineguagliabile che avrebbe potuto cogliere ben altri allori se avesse potuto esprimersi in un Paese bridgisticamente più evoluto del suo.
Comunque, Gabriel che è uno dei soli 10 giocatori al mondo che si sono potuti fregiare della prestigiosa "Triple Crown", ha vinto 25 volte il Campionato Sud Americano, 30 volte quello del suo Paese.

Oltre ai tre titoli che gli hanno permesso la conquista della prestigiosa Triple Crown, tra i molti altri successi dell'Arcangelo ricordiamo: nel 1992 ai NABC's di Orlando, sia la Reisinger che il Master Mixed Team, nel 2001 il Transnational Open Teams, nel 1998 lo IOC Grand Prix, nel 1993 e nel 1997 la Cap Gemini, nel 1979 e 1992 il Sunday Times.
Grazie ai suoi molti successi internazionali, Gabriel è il primo dei giocatori brasiliani nella speciale classifica edita dalla World Bridge Federation per annoverare i più forti campioni ancora in vita.
Quando molti anni fa durante un'intervista gli venne chiesto cosa prevedeva circa i suoi programmi futuri, rispose: "ho una moglie deliziosa, due figli terribili, devo lavorare ed ho l'hobby delle lingue. Se dovessi anche pensare al futuro, quando potrei giocare a Bridge!".
Sua moglie Leda Pain è una World Intenational Women Master ed una delle migliori bridgiste brasiliane.

However, Gabriel who is one of only 10 players in the world who has been able to boast the prestigious "Triple Crown", has won the South American Championship 25 times, 30 times that of his country.

His wife Leda Pain is a World International Women Master and one of the best Brazilian bridge player.
