Russel A. Ekeblad è nato a Evanston nello stato dell'Illinois il 17 agosto del 1946 e ha cominciato a giocare a bridge solo una volta trascorsa la prima gioventù nella pratica di numerosi sport.
Si è laureato nel 1968 presso la Brown University, una Università privata che si trova a Providence, la capitale del Rhode Island.

Dopo gli studi è entrato per tre anni nella Guarda Costiera ed in quel periodo ha conosciuto Kit Woolsey e Michael Cappelletti che lo hanno iniziato al bridge.
Nel mondo del bridge ha conosciuto sua moglie Sheila che ha sposato nel 1974 e con cui ha vinto il Grand National Teams nel 2002.
Nel 1976 avviò una sua impresa la Kenilworth Creations che ha avuto grande successo e che gli ha permesso di ritirarsi presto quasi completamente dagli affari. Oggi vive l'inverno in Florida e l'estate nel Rhode Island dove divide la passione del bridge con quella delle barche e del golf.
Sul piano internazionale ha vinto un bronzo nella Rosenblum del 1990 e nella Bermuda del 2005, è stato campione del Mondo a Coppie IMP nel 1998 giocando in coppia con Michael Seamon ed ha vinto le Olimpiadi Senior del 2008.
Su quello nazionale ha il Silodor nel 1993, le Spingold nel 1992, 2005 e nel 2009 ed il Grand National Teams del 2002.
Russ è scomparso il 12 dicembre del 2018.
Sheila Rose Bernstein Eklebad è nata il 13 maggio del 1940, ha studiato alla Hope High School e si laureata alla Università di Boston, comproprietaria della Kenilworth Creations è stata sposata con Russ per 37 anni dandogli tre figli.
Appassionata bridgista ed ottima giocatrice che si è fregiata del GNT nel 2002 (come sopra ricordato) e si è spenta il 3 marzo del 2019 a Providence.
Russel A. Ekeblad was born August 17, 1946 in Evanston, Illinois. In his youth, he
was interested in and pursued the play of various sports, but never played
bridge.
He attended Brown University, graduating 1968 and then went on to Graduate School at Columbia. Russ also went to Coast Guard Officer Candidate School and served 3 years of active duty, stationed at headquarters in DC. He started to get interested in bridge at that time – learning with the likes of Woolsey, Manfield and Capelletti Sr.
Russ met his wife Sheila through bridge, and the two were married in 1974. Russ started his own company, Kennilworth Creations in 1976, and it becamee very successful. Russ is now semi-retired, spending his winters in FL, summers in RI.
Besides bridge, Russ’ passions are boating and golf.
Russ has won one Silodor, three Spingolds, one Grand National Teams and some USBCs.
He won bronze medals in the 1990 Rosenblum and 2005 Bermuda Bowl. He and Michael Seamon won the World IMP Pairs in Lille France in 2002.
Russ is disappeared December 12, 2018.
Sheila Rose Bernstein Eklebad was born on May 13, 1940, she studied at Hope High School and graduated from the University of Boston, co-owner of Kenilworth Creations was married to Russ for 37 years giving her three children.
Passionate and excellent bridge player she has garnered the GNT of 2002 already mentioned and she died on March 3, 2019 in Providence.
