Gianfranco  FACCHINI

Nato a Bologna nel 1937 è stato un World Life Master ed un Italian Grand Master.

 Sul piano nazionale ha vinto diversi titoli tra i quali spiccano 4 Coppe Italia (1970, 73, 87, 88), 2 Campionati a  Squadre Libere (1984, 1990). 

 Su quello internazionale, ha vinto e i Campionati del MEC a Coppie Miste nel 1971 e a fatto parte per breve tempo del leggendario Blue Team vincendo il Campionato del Mondo nel 1975 durante il quale fu coinvolto nel famoso scandalo che portò a installare i sipari anche sotto i tavoli da gioco.

 Fu il giornalista americano Bruce Keidan che accusò Facchini ed il suo compagno Sergio Zucchelli di scambiarsi dei segnali con i piedi sotto il tavolo prima dell'attacco ma, il Comitato WBF, pur facendo arrivare ai due italiani una seria reprimenda, permise loro di continuare a giocare fino alla fine del Campionato.

 Il capitano degli eterni avversari degli azzurri era Alfred Sheinwold che voleva ritirare la squadra a stelle e strisce ma che fu costretto a completare la gara dalla sua Federazione.

 L'Italia prevalse in finale per 215 a 189 ma, da quel momento, l'astro nascente della giovane coppia italiana si eclissò.

Direttore ed insegnante stimato, Gianfranco è scomparso i primi giorni del giugno del 2015.

He has won several national titles among which four Italy Cups (1970, 73, 87, 88) and two Open Teams (1984, 1990).

On the international level, he won  MEC Mixed Pairs in 1971 and briefly served on the legendary Blue Team winning the World Championship in 1975 during which he was involved in the famous scandal that led to even install the curtain under the table game.

Bruce Keidan has been the American journalist who accused Facchini and his partner Sergio Zucchelli exchange of signals with his feet under the table before the attack, but the WBF Committee, although they get a serious reprimand to the two Italians, allowed them to continue to play until the end of the championship.

The captain of the eternal enemies of the blue was Alfred Sheinwold who wanted to withdraw the team with stars and stripes, but he was forced to complete the race from his Federation.

Italy prevailed in the final 215 to 189, but by that time, the rising star is eclipsed by the young Italian pair.

Appreciated director and teacher, Gianfranco disappeared June 2015.
