Nato a Bologna nel 1934 è stato uno dei migliori giocatori italiani negli anni '70 e '80.

 Nel 1975 fu coinvolto nel famoso scandalo che portò a installare i sipari anche sotto i tavoli da gioco.  Fu il giornalista americano Bruce Keidan che lo accusò  assieme al suo compagno Gianfranco Facchini di scambiarsi dei segnali con i piedi sotto il tavolo prima dell'attacco ma, il Comitato della WBF, pur facendo arrivare ai due italiani una seria reprimenda, permise loro di continuare a giocare fino alla fine del Campionato ed il capitano degli statunitensi Alfred Sheinwoold, che voleva ritirare la squadra a stelle e strisce, fu costretto a completare la gara dalla sua Federazione.

  Campione Italiano a Squadre Open nel 1984, vinse tre volte la Coppa Italia Open (1966, 1969 e 1973) e a livello internazionale, dopo essere stato campione Europeo a Squadre Juniores del MEC nel 1967, arrivò a vincere la Bermuda Bowl nel 1975.

 Sergio, che era un World Life Master, è scomparso nel novembre del 2012 dopo una lunga malattia è anche stato il coach delle alfiere azzurre che hanno vinto l'argento agli Europei a Squadre  del 1987 e degli azzurrini che hanno vinto l'Europeo a Squadre nel 1988.

It was the American journalist Bruce Keidan who accused him and his partner Gianfranco Facchini to exchange signals with his feet under the table before the attack , but the WBF Committee  while doing get a serious reprimand to the two Italians , allowed them to continue to play until the end of the Championship and the captain of the U.S.  Alfred Sheinwoold, who wanted to withdraw the team stars and stripes , was forced to complete the race from his Federation.

Italian Open Teams  Champion in 1984, he won the Open Italian Cup three times (1966, 1969 and 1973).

World Life Master, at international level, having been EEC Junior Teams of the 1967 and came to win the Bermuda Bowl in 1975.

Sergio, who passed away in November 2012 after a long illness, was also the coach of the blue ensign who won silver at the European Women Teams Championships in 1987 and bluish Teams that have won the European Junior Teams Championships  in 1988.
