Gunnar  HALLBERG

 Gunnar Hallberg è nato il 22 maggio del 1945 a Lykesil una cittadina sullo Skagerrak circa 100 Km a nord di Goteborg e negli anni '80 è stato un regolare membro della nazionale svedese.

 Nato in una numerosa famiglia di pescatori (due fratelli ed una sorella) ha lasciato la scuola quando aveva 15 anni perché era già innamorato del bridge che aveva conosciuto l'anno precedente. Si mantenne per qualche tempo facendo il meccanico m, quando finì  il servizio militare  andò a cercare fortuna a Stoccolma.

 Per qualche tempo ha fatto l'imprenditore edile ma soleva giocare a bridge appena poteva.

 Nel 1995, dopo aver vissuto per qualche tempo in Spagna dove ha conosciuto la sua futura moglie, si è trasferito a Brighton per iniziare la sua carriera di professionista del bridge.

 Sposato con Paley, ha due figlie.

 World Master, vive insegnando bridge ad Hove, giocando a Londra e in giro per il mondo,  ovunque i suoi magnanimi sponsor vogliano misurarsi con il bridge agonistico.

 Nel suo palmares, assieme a diversi Campionati svedesi e nordici, trovano posto oltre ad una medaglia d'argento ai Campionati Europei del 1980, le vittorie degli Australian National Open Teams, della Senior Bowl del 2009, del Cavendish Team nel 2004, del Campionato Europeo Seniores del 2014, della Vanderbilt nel 2006 (primo cittadini britannico a riuscire in tale impresa) e della NEC Cup nel 2015.

Il 2016 si apre con l'argento guadagnato ai primi Giochi Invernali Europei a cui nel 2018 fa seguito il bronzo nella Champions Cup.

 Vive senza possedere un auto, fa lunghe passeggiate lungo il mare ed è anche un discreto giocatore di scacchi.

  Gunnar Hallberg was born on May 22, 1945 in Lykesil, a town on the Skagerrak about 100 km north of Gothenburg and in the 1980s he was a regular member of the Swedish national team.

Born into a large family of fishermen (two brothers and a sister) he left school when he was 15 because he was already in love with the bridge he had met the previous year.

He spent some time working as a mechanic, when he finished his military service he went to seek his fortune in Stockholm.

For some time he was a building contractor but used to play bridge as soon as he could.

In 1995, after living for some time in Spain where he met his future wife, he moved to Brighton to start his professional bridge career.

Married to Paley, he has two daughters.

World Master, he lives teaching bridge in Hove, playing in London and around the world, wherever his magnanimous sponsors want to compete with competitive bridge.

In his palmares, together with several Swedish and Nordic Championships, in addition to a silver medal at the 1980 European Championships, the victories of the Australian National Open Teams, the 2009 Senior Bowl, the Cavendish Team in 2004, the European Championship Seniors in 2014, Vanderbilt in 2006 and NEC Cup in 2015.
2016 opens with the silver earned at the first European Winter Games, followed by bronze in the Champions Cup in 2018.

He lives without owning a car, takes long walks along the sea and is also a decent chess player.
