Pierre Jais è nato a Parigi il 13 ottobre del 1913, ha studiato presso il Liceo Carnot e si è laureato in medicina ed è stato un Campione francese autore di numerosi libri di bridge che per il loro successo sono stati tradotti in varie lingue.

Appassionato sciatore, un grave incidente lo consegnò al bridge che conobbe a 21 anni nel circolo sportivo dove praticava il tennis. L'anno successivo era già campione di Francia! Altri due anni e nel 1937 si tolse la soddisfazione di eliminare nelle qualificazioni, il Team del mitico Pierre Albarran perdendo per la classica incollatura il Campionato del Mondo con i Culbertson.
Negli anno '40 attraversò a piedi i Pirenei per riparare in Spagna, da dove dopo essere stato in un campo d'internamento, partì via mare per l'Algeria, Paese dove risiedevano i suoi parenti.
Con Roger Trezél formò nell'immediato dopoguerra una delle coppie più vincenti in assoluto del bridge francese e tra quelle di maggior rilievo mondiale, contribuì con i suoi successi alla diffusione del sistema che prediligeva e che per quel tempo era grandemente innovativo, il Canapé ideato da Pierre Albarran.
Abbandonò il bridge giocato nel 1963, ma non seppe resistere al richiamo della Federazione Francese e nel 1969 tornò al tavolo verde riprendendo subito a vincere.
Per lunghi anni nei primi 20 posti della classifica dei migliori giocatori viventi edita dalla WBF con il titolo di World Grand Master, ha vinto oltre a molti Tornei nazionali ed internazionali, un Campionato Mondiale a Squadre, il primo Campionato Mondiale a Coppie, 2 Campionati Europei ed una Olimpiade.
È uno dei soli 10 giocatori al mondo che si sono potuti fregiare della prestigiosa "Triple Crown".
Scomparve il 24 giugno del 1988.
