Eric  KOKISH  &  Beverly  KRAFT

Il canadese Eric O. Kokish è nato il 19 maggio del 1947 a Montreal, si è laureato in legge alla Mc Gill, si è sposato con Beverly Kraft a suo volta plurititolata campionessa di bridge che ha saputo conquistare un argento ed un bronzo in due diverse Olimpiadi Femminili (1996 e 2000), ha vissuto a lungo a Toronto ed è molto noto a tutti i giocatori anglofoni per la rubrica delle risposte ai lettori che ha curato per più di un decennio sulle pagine di The Bridge Bulletin oltre che per le altre sue numerose collaborazioni con alcune delle più affermate riviste specialistiche nel mondo.

Eric ha imparato il Bridge durante gli anni del liceo assieme alla moglie, ha abbandonato gli studi di legge per dedicarsi completamente al bridge.

La coppia ha avuto un figlio di nome Matteo.

 Assieme alla moglie che, da sempre è la sua prima collaboratrice, hanno fondato la International Bridge Services.

 Collaboratore continuativo di "Bridge Magazine", condirettore della prestigiosa "The Bridge World", per un ventennio autore dell'inserto settimanale che compariva sulla gazzetta di Montreal, Eric è anche stato il brillante commentatore in VuGraph ai Mondiali di fine millennio.

 Kokish è stato per molti anni un membro del Board della Canadian Bridge Federation e fa parte del Goodwill Committee della ACBL che, nel 2002, gli ha concesso l'onore di eleggerlo "Membro Onorario per l'Anno" in riconoscimento dei servigi resi al mondo del Bridge.

 Come giocatore ha fatto parte della rappresentativa USA dal 1974 collezionando due piazze d'onore nei Mondiali a Squadre del 1978 e in quelli a Coppie del 1995. 

 Nel circuito Nord Americano ha vinto tra l'altro il Mitchell del 1978 e alla Vanderbilt del 1974. 

 Nonostante che negli ultimi anni della sua vita abbia giocato abbastanza poco, Eric ha continuato a figurare nei primi posti nella classifica dei migliori giocatori canadesi di ogni tempo.

Come teorico ha ideato le due convenzioni che portano il nome di "Kokish Relay" e "Montreal Relay".

Dal 1985 ha iniziato anche l'attività di allenatore gestendo i Team nazionali di vari Paesi tra i quali la Russia, la Cina, il Brasile e l'Indonesia, ed ha anche allenato la squadra di Nick Nickell che ha vinto la Bermuda Bowl nel 2000 e nel 2009 e diversi NABC.

Nel 2011 Eric è stato eletto nella Hall of Fame del bridge canadese e nel 2017 ha vinto anche la Yeh Cup.

Eric è scomparso dopo una lunga malattia il 10 giugno del 2023.

The Canadian Eric O. Kokish was born on May 19, 1947 in Montreal, he graduated in law from McGill, he married Beverly Kraft, who in turn was a bridge champion who was able to win a silver and a bronze medal in two different Women's Olympics ( 1996 and 2000), lived in Toronto for a long time and is well known to all English-speaking players for the reader response column he edited for more than a decade on the pages of The Bridge Bulletin as well as for his other numerous collaborations with some of the most established specialist magazines in the world.

Eric learned Bridge during his high school years with his wife, he abandoned his law studies to devote himself completely to bridge.

The couple had a son named Matteo.

Together with his wife who has always been his first collaborator, they founded International Bridge Services.

Continuing collaborator of "Bridge Magazine", co-director of the prestigious "The Bridge World", for twenty years author of the weekly insert that appeared in the Montreal gazette, Eric was also the brilliant commentator in VuGraph at the World Cup at the end of the millennium.

Kokish served for many years on the Board of the Canadian Bridge Federation and serves on the Goodwill Committee of the ACBL which, in 2002, bestowed the honor of electing him "Honorary Member for the Year" in recognition of his services to the world of the Bridge.

As a player he has been part of the USA representative since 1974, collecting two places of honor in the 1978 World Team Championships and in the 1995 Pairs Championships.

On the North American circuit he won the 1978 Mitchell and 1974 Vanderbilt among others.

Despite playing relatively little in the last few years of his life, Eric continued to figure at the top of the list of all-time best Canadian players.

As a theorist he devised the two conventions that bear the name of "Kokish Relay" and "Montreal Relay".

From 1985 he also started coaching by managing the national teams of various countries including Russia, China, Brazil and Indonesia, and he also coached Nick Nickell's team that won the Bermuda Bowl in 2000 and in 2009 and several NABCs.

In 2011 Eric was inducted into the Canadian Bridge Hall of Fame and in 2017 he also won the Yeh Cup.

Eric passed away after a long illness on June 10, 2023.
