Nato nel 1946 a Rome in Georgia, Fredrick M. "Fred" Stewart si è laureato in Storia americana presso l'Università dell'Alabama ed è forse il più noto editorialista degli Stati Uniti.  Frank ha conosciuto il bridge all'Università di Alabama dove si è laureato, ed è stato subito grande amore.

 Sposato con Charlotte, una logopedista infantile, dopo aver vissuto alcuni anni a Memphis, oggi vivono a Fayette, una cittadina dell'Alabama circa 60 Km a nord di Tuscaloosa , assieme alla loro figlia adottiva.

 Nel 1968 durante il servizio militare, rappresentò la Corea del Sud nel Campionato del "Far East", poi dopo aver vinto diversi Campionati Regionali negli anni '70, ha praticamente abbandonato il bridge giocato per dedicarsi completamente all'attività editoriale e all'insegnamento.

 Quando negli anni '80 ha ripreso l'attività agonistica, ha collezionato 8 NABC tra i quali ricordiamo i due Jacoby del 1992 e 2002, il Mitchell del 1995, e la Reisinger del 1984.

 Frank, che ha scritto una ventina di libri di discreto successo ed ha contribuito alla stesura dell'Enciclopedia del Bridge, ha anche vinto il Cavendish Pairs nel 1993, 1996 e 2011.

  Frank Stewart (born 1946 in Rome, Ga), has been involved with bridge as a journalist, author, editor, competitor, teacher and creator of the popular "Daily Bridge Club" column.

Stewart is a graduate of the University of Alabama. He and his wife Charlotte, a speech-language pathologist, make their home in Fayette, Ala.

Stewart is a longtime enthusiast of the game. In 1968, while serving in the U.S. Army, he represented South Korea in the Far East Bridge Championship. He went on to win several regional events in the '70s before discontinuing tournament play to devote full time to writing about bridge.

He is the author of 19 books – including "The Bridge Player's Comprehensive Guide to Defense," "Better Bridge for the Advancing Player" and The Devyn Press Bridge Teacher's Manuals and Student Texts – and has also published hundreds of technical articles, tournament reports and fiction and humor pieces in most of the world's leading bridge magazines and online publications.

He was co-editor from 1984 to 1989 of the most widely circulated of these – The Contract Bridge Bulletin – and continues to contribute a monthly instructional column he began in 1981.

He edited the American Contract Bridge League's World Championship books from 1983 to 1987 and was a principal contributor to the "Official Encyclopedia of Bridge" from 1986 to 1989.

When he resumed competitive activity in the 1980s, he collected 8 NABCs, including the two Jacobys of 1992 and 2002, the Mitchell of 1995, and the Reisinger of 1984.

Frank, who has written about twenty fairly successful books and contributed to the Bridge Encyclopedia, also won the Cavendish Pairs in 1993, 1996 and 2011.
