Margaret Wilkinson Wagar è nata il 6 aprile del 1902 a Delaware nel cuore dell'Ohio ed è scomparsa ad Atlanta in Georgia il 6 gennaio del 1990, dopo essere stata una delle migliori giocatrici del suo tempo e una valente insegnate e scrittrice di bridge.

 Margaret fece parte del Board of Directors dell'A.C.B.L. dal 1960 al 1972 e fu nominata Membro Onorario dell'Associazione nel 1979.

  Tra i suoi successi più significativi come giocatrice, ricordiamo: 7 vittorie nel Coffin Trophy (tra il 1940 ed il 1965), il Chicago (oggi Reisinger) nel 1941, 5 Campionati americani a coppie femminili tra il 1944 ed il 1958 (gli ultimi 4 consecutivi in coppia con Kay Rhodes), 5 Master Mixed Teams (tra il 1942 ed il 1964), 2 Open Pairs (1947 e 48), 2 Mixed Pairs (1948 e 49), 2 Spingold (1946 e 1948) in squadre nelle quali era l'unica componente femminile.

 A cavallo degli anni '70 anni è stata anche capitano non giocatore delle squadre femminili USA che parteciparono alle Olimpiadi  vincendo due medaglie di bronzo alle Olimpiadi del '68 e del '72.

Margaret fu la quinta donna nella storia della WBF a conquistare il titolo di World Life Master e la ACBL gli ha concesso nel 1999 l'onore di far parte della Hall of Fame del bridge Americano e, inoltre, la ricorda con il Wagar Trophy che ogni anno premia la migliore squadra femminile ai Summer NABC's.

Margaret Wagar (1902-1990), inducted into the ACBL Bridge Hall of Fame in 1999, became Life Master #37 in 1943, the fifth woman to earn the rank.

She and Kay Rhodes share one of the most remarkable achievements in ACBL history — they won the Women’s Pairs four consecutive years: 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1958.

Wagar and Rhodes share another record — one of frustration. They were second in the Women’s Teams for seven consecutive years, 1952-1958.

Wagar’s impressive record spans three decades and includes wins in women’s and open competition.

Her open wins include the Reisinger in 1941, the Open Pairs (the fore-runner of the Blue Ribbon Pairs) in 1947 and 1948 and the Spingold in 1946 and 1948.

Wagar served on the ACBL Board of Directors from 1960 to 1972 and was named ACBL Honorary Member in 1979.

She was non-playing captain of the U.S. World Women’s Teams in 1968 and 1972.
