Joe è nato nel 1981 a Brooklyn Center nell'hinterland di Minneapolis e si è diplomato alla Richfield High School. Dopo aver vissuto nel Bronx dove ha operato saltuariamente come trader, oggi vive a Las Vegas dove si dedica al suo vero lavoro che è il bridge.

 Ha iniziato a giocare a 13 anni sotto la guida dei suoi genitori e a 14 ha vinto il suo primo Campionato Regionale, oggi è un World Grand Master.

 Dopo una serie di medaglie di ogni metallo vinte a livello internazionale nelle categorie giovanili, arricchite dal premio Joan Gerard ricevuto nel 2004, il suo primo grande successo nazionale arriva nel 2006 quando vince la Reisinger, seguito dalla Spingold del 2016, dalle Vanderbilt del 2012, 2018 e 2023 e dal Mitchell del 2018.

 In campo internazionale ha fatto parte degli juniores americani che hanno partecipato alle Olimpiadi Invernali del 2002 arrivando al terzo posto ed ha vinto i Mondiali Juniores a Squadre del 2005 e del 2006.

 Passato nella nazionale maggiore ha conquistato l'argento nella Bermuda Bowl del 2011, ha vinto la  Buffett Cup nel 2012 e finalmente ha vinto la Bermuda Bowl nel 2017.

 Nel 2018 ha vinto l'argento ai World Bridge Series nel Coppie Open.

 Amante degli sport, durante la scuola ha praticato il baseball, basket, il calcio, ed il tennis.

  Joe Grue grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Richfield High School. 

He started playing at 13, taught by his parents, and won a Flight C Grand National Team event at age 14. 

Grue has been a trader on the floor in New York City but today live in Las Vegas how professional bridge play. 

After a lot of medals earned in the youth categories enriched by Joan Gerard award in 2006, passed in major national, he won the silver medal in Bermuda Bowl of 2011, the Buffett Cup in 2012 and earned the gold medal in 2017 Bermuda Bowl.

He also won the Reisinger in 2006, the Vanderbilt Cup in 2012, 2018 and 2023, the Spingold 2016, the Mitchell 2018 and the silver medal in the World Bridge Series Open Pairs.

Grue describes himself as a "competitive" person -- a must for all successful players -- now in bridge, but earlier in baseball, basketball, soccer and tennis.

His father, Thomas, works for a generator company; his mother, Eva, teaches high school mathematics.

He has four siblings.
