Ling Gu è nata nel 1959 e sulle orme dei suoi parenti ha cominciato a giocare a bridge quando aveva solo 12 anni.

 World Women Grand Master, oltre ad un lungo elenco di titoli nazionali ha iniziato nel 1991 a mietere quelli internazionali iniziando con un bronzo nella Venice Cup del 1991 poi seguito dall'argento del 2003 e dal bronzo del 2007.

 Tra le prime 30 atlete di ogni tempo, nelle Olimpiadi Femminili a Squadre ha conquistato due argenti nel 1996 e nel 2008, ha vinto la McConnell del 2010. Ha poi guadagnato due bronzi nella prima edizione degli Sport Accord Games (2011) e nelle Olimpiadi a Coppie Femminili (2016).

 Nel circuito nordamericano ha vinto il Wagar Women Teams nel 2016.
