Peter A. Leventritt è nato il 5 ottobre del 1915 a Manhattan, è stato uno dei migliori giocatori americani della seconda metà del secolo scorso ed ha ricoperto numerosi incarichi in seno alla Federazione americana.

Peter è stato un giocatore professionista di Hockey fin quando nel 1934, un incidente non ne ha compromesso la carriera.
Co-fondatore della famosa Card School di New York, è stato un insegnante di grande successo ed ha rivestito la carica di Presidente della Greater New York Bridge Association.
È stato pioniere del famoso Big Club, scritto a 4 mani con il grande Schenken, sistema che giocarono a lungo insieme, ed è arrivato 4 volte secondo nella Bermuda Bowl (1957, 61, 63, 65).
World Life Master , ha vinto 13 titoli nazionali tra i quali ricordiamo: 2 Spingold (1956, 60), 3 Reisinger (1941, 49, 63), 2 Vanderbilt (1953, 64) e ha colto molti altri successi regionali.
Negli anni a cavallo tra il '60 e il '70 ha fatto la spola tra New York e Johannesburg per allenare le nazionali sudafricane, portando due volte quella femminile all'argento Olimpico.
Quattro anni dopo la sua scomparsa avvenuta il 6 dicembre del 1997 in un ospedale newyorkese per complicazioni legate al suo diabete, la ACBL lo ha eletto nella prestigiosa Hall of Fame americana del bridge e lo ricorda anche con il Peter Leventritt Trophy che premia i vincitori del Silver Ribbon Pairs agli Spring NABC's.
Peter Leventritt (1915 - 1997) earned
recognition as a bridge player, administrator and teacher.
He became Life Master #38 in 1943 and won major tournament titles in three decades.
He represented North America in the Bermuda Bowl four times --- 1957, 1961, 1963 and 1965 --- and finished second to Italy’s Blue Team each time.
Leventritt pioneered the use of the Schenken System in partnership with its inventor, Howard Schenken.
A co-founder of the Card School of New York, he and Edgar Kaplan were the principal authors of the original edition of "The Biggest Little Bridge Book in the World". he has een ACBL president in 1954 and assistant treasurer 1945-46.

In the years between the 60s and 70s he has been commuting between New York and Johannesburg to coach the South African nationals, carrying twice the female at Olympic silver.
At the Spring NABC's "The Silver Ribbon Pairs" consists of two qualifying and two final sessions. The winners will have their names inscribed on the Leventritt Trophy and will receive a certificate of recognition.
He served as president of the Greater New York Bridge Association and the Card School of New York, which he co-founded.
