MANFIELD  family

Edward Adam Manfield è nato nel Bronx il primo maggio del 1943, si è laureato in economia nel 1965 presso la Harvard University e, mentre era sotto le armi, ha guadagnato un Master alla University of Virginia nel 1972.

 Ha lavorato presso la Federal Trade Commission e più tardi presso la Binary Traders Inc.

 Sposato tre volte, ha divorziato le prime due dalle campionesse Lynn Johannesen (foto a dx) e da Jo Ann Sprung. Ha avuto tre figli Karen, Seth e Sabrina di cui gli ultimi due con la terza moglie Melanie Bigelow (nella foto sotto a sx) anche lei ottima giocatrice e vincitrice del mondiale a Squadre Miste del 2018 e Karen (foto sotto a dx) con Lynn. Tutti e tre i figli giocano a bridge.

 Operatore di Borsa a Philadelphia, ha dedicato gran parte della sua vita alla passione per il bridge diventando un giocatore di successo internazionale.

  Valente teorico, ha formato una formidabile coppia con Kit Woolsey lanciando sulla scena internazionale quello che oggi è noto come "Stile Washington".

  Ed ha vinto la Rosenblum Cup del 1986 a Bar Harbour e, nella stessa competizione ha conquistato l'argento nel 1982. Questi due, restano i suoi migliori risultato in campo internazionale assieme alla vittoria nel Cavendish a coppie del 1979.

 Ha anche conseguito 11 titoli Nord Americani tra i quali ricordiamo il Wernher del 1985, 2 Mitchell (1989 e 1994) e la Vanderbilt del 1991 e 3 Grand National Teams (1984, 1988 e 1992).

  Ha collaborato con enorme successo con Bridge World ed ha anche vinto il premio IBPA 1979/80 per il miglior articolo di bridge uscito quell'anno.

 Questi risultati lo hanno portato a conquistare il titolo di  World Life Master e la elezione nella Hall of Fame avvenuta nel 2003 a 4 anni dalla sua scomparsa, avvenuta prematuramente il 29 marzo del 1999 a causa di un attacco cardiaco, mentre si trovava nella sua casa di Philadelphia.

  Edward Adam Manfield was born in the Bronx on May 1, 1943, graduated in economics in 1965 from Harvard University and, while in the army, earned a Master's degree from the University of Virginia in 1972.

 He worked at the Federal Trade Commission and later at Binary Traders Inc.

 Married three times, he divorced the first two from the champions Lynn Johannesen (pictured right) and Jo Ann Sprung. He had three children, Karen, Seth and Sabrina of which the last two with the third wife Melanie Bigelow (pictured left) she is also excellent player winner of the World Mixed Team 2018, and Karen (picture on the right) with Lynn . All three sons play bridge.

 A stockbroker in Philadelphia, he devoted much of his life to the passion for bridge by becoming a successful international player.

 Skilful theoretic, has formed a formidable couple with Kit Woolsey launching on the international scene what is known today as "Washington Style".

 Ed won the 1986 Rosenblum Cup at Bar Harbor, and in the same competition he won the silver in 1982. These two, remain his best result in the international field along with the victory in Cavendish in pairs of 1979.

 He also earned 11 North American titles including the 1985 Wernher, 2 Mitchell (1989 and 1994) and the 1991 Vanderbilt and 3 Grand National Teams (1984, 1988 and 1992).

 He collaborated with great success with Bridge World and also won the IBPA 1979/80 award for the best bridge article released that year.

These results led him to win the title of World Life Master and the election in the Hall of Fame in 2003, 4 years after his death, which took place prematurely on March 29, 1999 due to a heart attack, while he was in his home of Philadelphia.
