Nato a Napoli nel 1925, Guido Barbone ha vissuto a lungo a Bari, chimico, giornalista e scrittore di bridge è stato Direttore di Bridge D'Italia per oltre 15 anni.
Giocatore di buona levatura ha fatto più volte parte del team azzurro ed è stato capitano non giocatore del Blue Team campione del mondo a Miami e delle ladies campioni d'Europa ad Elsinore.
E' stato Presidente della FIGB dal 1978 al 1986, membro dell'esecutivo dell'EBL e Vicepresidente dell'International Bridge Press Association. Scomparso nel 1995, ha impersonato una delle più autorevoli figure del bridge nazionale e ha avuto il merito di traghettare la FIGB, dall'emarginazione in cui si era venuta a trovare alla fine degli anni '70, alla piena integrazione con l'Europa e con il resto del Mondo.
È stato membro dell'Esecutivo della EBL e Vice Presidente dell'I.B.P.A.
Alcuni suoi testi hanno avuto grande successo ed ha scritto articoli anche per Riviste estere.
Ha pubblicato in più edizioni l'Enciclopedia Italiana del Bridge e molto hanno contribuito al diffondersi del gioco in Italia.
É scomparso l'11 ottobre del 1995.

Some of his book can be considered as a mini Italian Encyclopedia of the bridge and have greatly contributed to the spread of the game in Italy.
