Fred  GITELMAN

 

 Fred Gitelman è nato a Toronto in Canada il 6 febbraio del 1965 in una famiglia di bridgisti, cominciò a programmare computer all'età di 12 anni e a giocare a bridge seriamente a quella di 18 ed oggi occupa un posto fisso nella nazionale canadese.

 A Toronto dove ha vissuto a lungo con sua moglie Sheri Winestock, anche lei programmatrice e campionessa di bridge, dirige la Bridge Base Inc, una società che  gestisce uno dei più affermati web site dove schiere di giocatori di tutto il mondo possono giocare, studiare ed allenarsi.

 Amante del golf, dello sci e del tennis, scrive di bridge, ma soprattutto crea programmi sempre più sofisticati per facilitare l'apprendimento e  l'esercizio del gioco. Una sua creazione software gestisce il vugraph dei NABC's.

 Dopo la sua prima affermazione internazionale ai mondiali juniores del 1991 dove contribuì all'argento conquistato dal Canada. Ha conquistato un gran numero di successi sia in campo nazionale che internazionale. Tra gli altri ricordiamo: la Rosenblum Cup del 2010, il Mitchell Trophy nel 1998, la Reisinger nel 2001, il Cavendish Teams ed il Forbo National Cup nel 2001, il Jacoby Trophy nel 2003 e nel 2010, la Spingold nel 2005, le Olimpiadi Invernali del 2002 per il Canada e la prima Warren Buffet Cup per l'America.

Nel 2011 ha vinto il bronzo nel primo World Mind nella Categoria Open Pairs.

 Ha partecipato a più edizioni della Bermuda Bowl sia per il Canada che per gli USA, ed ha conquistato il bronzo per gli USA in quella del 2005.

Sempre in campo internazionale, è stato anche coach della Squadra USA che ha vinto il Mondiale a Squadre del 2001.

Oggi è un World Grand Life Master e vive a Las Vegas e tra i suoi partner abituali annovera: Lew Stansby, Brad Moss, George Mittelman, Eric Kokish, Geoff Hampson e la stessa Sheri.

Ultimi sui successi la Yeh Cup del 2017 ed il GNT del 2019.

Nel 2026 ha avuto l'onore di essere nella Hall of Fame.

Fred Gitelman was born in Toronto, Canada on February 6, 1965, into a family of bridge players. He began programming computers at the age of 12 and playing bridge seriously at 18.

In Toronto, where he has lived for a long time with his wife, Sheri Winestock, also a programmer and bridge champion, he runs Bridge Base Inc., a company that operates one of the most successful websites where players from around the world can play, study, and train.

A lover of golf, skiing, and tennis, he writes about bridge, but above all, he creates increasingly sophisticated programs to facilitate learning and practicing the game. One of his software creations manages the NABC's Vugraph.

After his first international success at the 1991 World Junior Championships, where he contributed to Canada's silver medal, he has achieved numerous successes both nationally and internationally. Among others, we remember: the 2010 Rosenblum Cup, the 1998 Mitchell Trophy, the 2001 Reisinger Trophy, the 2001 Cavendish Teams and Forbo National Cup, the 2003 and 2010 Jacoby Trophy, the 2005 Spingold Trophy, the 2002 Winter Olympics for Canada, and the first Warren Buffet Cup for America.

In 2011, he won bronze in the first World Mind Open Pairs category.

He has competed in multiple Bermuda Bowls for both Canada and the USA, winning bronze for the USA in 2005.

Also competing internationally, he was also the coach of the USA Team that won the 2001 World Team Championship.

Today, he is a World Grand Life Master and lives in Las Vegas. His regular partners include Lew Stansby, Brad Moss, George Mittelman, Eric Kokish, Geoff Hampson, and Sheri herself.

His most recent successes include the 2017 Yeh Cup and the 2019 GNT.

In 2026, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
