Nato nel 1938 nella D.C. area si è poi trasferito a Houston in Texas dove è rimasto per l'intera sua vita, è stato una delle persone più rappresentative del bridge statunitense operando per decenni come giocatore e come amministratore a tutti i livelli.

Dopo essere stato uno scacchista quando frequentava l'Università del Maryland, divenne un appassionato bridgista.
Sposato con Barbara ha avuto una figlia Julie.
Una volta in pensione Dan, che ha gestito per 28 anni la sua farmacia, come giocatore ha avuto i maggiori successi internazionali vincendo il bronzo nella Bermuda Bowl del 2003 e nelle Rosenblum Cup del 1978 e del 1990.
Sul piano nazionale ha vinto una decina di titoli tra i quali ricordiamo: la Reisinger nel 2002, il Grand National Teams nel 1977, la Spingold nel 1977, la Vanderbilt nel 1990 e 1993 ed il Jacoby nel 2011.
Passato tra i Senior ha conquistato la Senior Bowl nel 2007 e la Senior Cup nel 2000.
World International Master e Senior Life Master, come capitano non giocatore, ha guidato i Team USA alla vittoria nelle Bermuda Bowl del 1976 e del 1987 arrivando secondo in quella del 1989 e alle Olimpiadi del 1992 che ha invece vinto nel 1988.
Ha anche guidato il Team USA femminile portandolo alla medaglia d'argento nella Venice Cup nel 1985 ed è l'ideatore della convenzione Crash.
É stato nominato Membro Onorario della ACBL nel 1989 ed ha ricoperto diverse cariche federali tra le quali quella di Presidente ACBL nel 2008.
Ci ha lasciato il 21 marzo 2023 per le complicazioni successive ad un intervento operatorio.

all levels.
After being a chess player while attending the University of Maryland, he became an avid bridge player.
He married Barbara he had a daughter Julie.
Once retired, Dan, who ran his own pharmacy for 28 years, enjoyed major international successes as a player, winning bronze in the 2003 Bermuda Bowl and the 1978 and 1990 Rosenblum Cup.
Nationally, he has won around ten titles, including: the Reisinger in 2002, the Grand National Teams in 1977, the Spingold in 1977, the Vanderbilt in 1990 and 1993 and the Jacoby in 2011.

World International Master and Senior Life Master, as a non-playing captain, led Team USA to victory in the 1976 and 1987 Bermuda Bowls, finishing second in the 1989 Bermuda Bowl and in the 1992 Olympics which he won in 1988.
He also led the women's Team USA to a silver medal in the 1985 Venice Cup and is the originator of the Crash convention.
He was named an Honorary Member of the ACBL in 1989 and has held various federal offices including that of ACBL President in 2008.
He left us on March 21, 2023 due to complications following an operation.
