Dirk Schroeder è nato a Wiesbaden nel 1943, insegnate, giornalista ed organizzatore di viaggi è un World International Master  ed un Senior Master che ha fatto parte regolarmente della nazionale tedesca fin dal 1969 e che, nel dopoguerra, è stato uno dei pilastri nello sviluppo del bridge tedesco.

 Vive a Wiesbaden con la moglie Kareen (nata il 1 maggio del 1947), anche lei bridgista di caratura internazionale, campionessa europea nel 1989, nonché, editrice, giornalista, scrittrice, organizzatrice di viaggi e insegnante.

 Ha ricoperto per la EBL le cariche di Membro dello Youth Committee e dell'Executive Committee, carica che ha anche ricoperto in ambito nazionale.

 Si è messo in luce vincendo nel 1969 i Campionati Juniores a Squadre del MEC, poi nel 1977 ha conquistato l'argento nel Misto a Squadre giocando in coppie con la moglie e nel 1967 e nel 1975 (ancora in coppia con la moglie) ha vinto quello Misto a Coppie. Infine, nel 1987 ha guadagnato un bronzo nel Coppie Open.

  Ha anche conquistato una trentina di titoli tedeschi e il bronzo nei Campionati Europei a Coppie Miste giocando con Kareen nel 1976.

 Tra i Seniores ha vinto il bronzo nelle Olimpiadi Senior a Squadre del 2004.

 È anche stato Capitano non giocatore della Nazionale giovanile tedesca che ha vinto il bronzo negli Europei a Squadre del 1978.

In post-war Germany, nobody has been as important for German bridge as Dirk Schroeder. In 1950, the Germans reappeared in the European Bridge League but in spite of the presence of Egmont von Dewitz, a real star, there have been no successes in international tournaments.

In Germany bridge was not popular at all and the number of  affiliated members did not exceed a few thousands. The generation of Dirk Schroeder produced a revolutionary change. The German national team became stronger and Schroeder himself played an important role in the organization of the German federation. The membership increased and by winning the Rosenblum Cup in Geneva (1990) the Germans have played themselves into the top group countries in the world.

He lives in Wiesbaden with his wife Kareen (born May 1, 1947), an international bridge player, 1989 European Women Teams Champion and publisher, journalist, writer, teacher and travel organizer.

Dirk and Kareen paired won 1975 European Pairs Mixed Common Market, earned the silver medal in 1977 European Teams Mixed Common Market and the bronze medal in 1976 European Pairs Mixed Championships.
