Meike Tesse Wortel è nata il 23 novembre del 1982 a Delft, una cittadina circa 60 Km a Sud di Amsterdam, ha frequentato il Grotius College e ha studiato biologia presso la Università di Amsterdam dove ha guadagnato un master prima di insegnare presso lo Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences.

 Oggi vive a Oslo dove lavora come ricercatrice presso la locale università e dove vive con suo figlio.

 Dopo i promettenti esordi, ha confermato di essere una delle migliori giocatrici olandesi specie se si considera che ha cominciato a giocare a bridge passati i 18 anni, dopo aver abbandonato gli scacchi nei quali era diventata campionessa nazionale giovanile e che praticava assieme al fratello Marten Wortel, poi divenuto anche lui ottimo giocatore di bridge.

  La prima affermazione degna di rilievo internazionale la coglie nel 2004 agli individuali di New York conquistando la medaglia di bronzo nel primo Campionato Mondiale Individuale dedicato agli juniores su un campo di 116 partecipanti ambosessi.

L'anno successivo vince l'oro agli Europei nella categoria ragazze under 26, ma è nel 2006 che vede la sua consacrazione internazionale vincendo all'esordio nella Nazionale maggiore femminile del suo Paese, la medaglia d'argento agli Europei di Varsavia giocando in coppia con  quella che allora era l'altra grande giovane promessa del bridge olandese: Marion Michielsen.

Infine, corona l'inseguimento all'oro vincendo nel 2007 i Campionati a Squadre Femminili di Antalya e gli European Youth Team Championships di Jesolo.

Nel 2008 dopo aver vinto le Universiadi di Lodz decide di abbandonare le competizioni femminili e lega un sodalizio con Maarten Schollaardt vincendo nel 2011 i Campionati Nazionali Olandesi sia nel Coppie Miste che nello Squadre Miste.

Insieme, prendono parte anche a  tutte le competizioni Open perché era desiderio di Meike confrontarsi alla pari con il bridge maschile.

Nel 2012 conquista l'oro ai Transnazionali Misti di Lille e nel 2013 l'argento ai Campionati Europei Open nel Coppie Femminili, il bronzo nella Venice Cup e lo Sternberg ai Fall NABC.

Nel 2014 sale sulla vetta dell'Europa vincendo i Campionati Europei a Squadre Femminili, inoltre, guadagna l'argento ai  World Transnational Mixed Pairs Championships e vince i  World Bridge Series Women Teams e i World Pairs Games.

Nel 2015 vince agli Europei Open lo Squadre Femminile e nel 2017 guadagna la medaglia d'argento nello Squadre Femminile agli Europei Open.

Oggi è una World World Women Grand Master.

Meike Tesse Wortel was born on November 23, 1982 in Delft, a town about 60 km south of Amsterdam, attended Grotius College and studied biology at the University of Amsterdam where she earned a master's degree before teaching at the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences.

Today she lives in Oslo where she works as a researcher at the local university and lives with her son.

After her promising beginnings, she confirmed that she is one of the best Dutch players, especially if we consider that she started playing bridge after she was 18, after abandoning the chess in which she became national youth champion and which she practiced together with her brother Marten Wortel, who later also became a good bridge player.

The first affirmation of her worthy of international importance takes her in 2004 at the individual in New York, winning the bronze medal in the first Individual World Championship dedicated to juniors on a field of 116 participants of both sexes.

The following year she won gold at the European Championships in the girls under 26 category, but it was in 2006 that she saw her international consecration by winning the silver medal at the European Championships in Warsaw playing in pairs on her debut in the senior women's national team. with what was then the other great young promise of Dutch bridge: Marion Michielsen.

Finally, she crowns the gold chase by winning the Women's Team Championships in Antalya in 2007 and the European Youth Team Championships in Jesolo.

In 2008, after winning the Lodz Universiade, she decides to abandon the women's competitions and she binds a partnership with Maarten Schollaardt, winning the Dutch National Championships in 2011 in both Mixed Pairs and Mixed Teams.

Together, they also take part in all the Open competitions because it was Meike's desire to compete on an equal footing with the men's Bridge.
In 2012 she won gold at the Mixed Transnationals in Lille and in 2013 silver at the European Open Championships in Women's Pairs, bronze in the Venice Cup and Sternberg at the Fall NABC.

In 2014 she climbs to the top of Europe by winning the European Women's Teams Championships, in addition, she earns silver at the World Transnational Mixed Pairs Championships and wins the World Bridge Series Women Teams and the World Pairs Games.

In 2015 she wins the Women's Team at the Open Europeans and in 2017 she earns the silver medal in the Women's Teams at the Open Europeans.
She today she is a World World Women Grand Master.
